US Hegemony Condemned in MacaoThe National People's Congress (NPC) delegates and members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Macao condemned the hegemony of the US plane intrusion at a symposium Friday."It is a serious violation of international laws and China's sovereignty. The US government should have taken full responsibilities and made an apology to China. However, it whipped up opinion and made unwarranted charges against China, reflecting its complete hegemony for another time," said Ma Man Kei, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee. Ma improvised a poem slamming the behavior of the United States and expressed his belief that the Chinese government will handle the matter appropriately to maintain the country's state sovereignty and interests. Ho Iat Seng, a Standing Committee member of the NPC, expressed his utmost indignation over the stance of the United States on the incident. The Chinese people cherish the friendship with the American people and make efforts to develop normal diplomatic relations between the two countries, but the friendship and respect should be established on the basis of equality and mutual exchanges. Sovereignty and national dignity can never be bartered, he noted. Those participating in the symposium called on the US government to give a satisfactory answer and make a solemn apology to the Chinese taking into full account of the long-term interests between the two countries and the two peoples. It will be the only right choice for the US government, facing with China's justice, to shoulder the responsibilities and correct the wrongdoing and promise no reoccurrence of similar events, they agreed. The delegates and members said that Macao people should uphold stability and development in Macao under the principle of "One Country, Two Systems" to make our country stronger and more prosperous. "Only in this way will our country avoid being bullied." They also showed concern for the missing pilot and sympathy and solicitude for his family. |
