Macedonia's President Urges "Final Blow" against ExtremismMacedonian President Boris Trajkovski Thursday urged the international community to launch "a final blow" against the "militant extremism" that threatens the stability of Macedonia and the Balkans, according to ATA News Agency."The only solution to keep the Balkans stable is to launch a final blow against militant extremism," said Trajkovski at the opening of the Southeast European security meeting in Skopje, capital of Macedonia. "We have solved the problem militarily, but now we have to solve it politically, and all our efforts will be in vain if the international community can not sort out the roots of the crisis in Kosovo because the nest of the terrorists is in Kosovo," said Trajkovski. "Are you ready to safeguard your ally?" Trajkovski asked western society. The President also ruled out talks with ethnic Albanian rebels and said that changing the constitution to create a federal state was unacceptable. "We have intensified political dialogue but we will not respond to those who suggest a concept of a federal state," said Trajkovski. "The last 10 years have shown us that calls for federalization merely disguise aspirations for an ethnically clean state," Trajkovski explained. Besides defense ministers or deputy ministers of Southeast European countries, Italian and Ukrainian defense ministers and military officials of NATO also attended the one-day regional meeting which singled out Kosovo as the heart of the problem, ATA reported. All the countries "firmly" criticize the activities of the ethnic Albanian rebels and support Macedonia's territorial integrity and border inviolability. |
