China Has Right to Demand US Apology for Air Collision: Syrian DailyChina has the right to demand an official apology from the United States for a mid-air collision incident, Syria's official Al-Thwara daily said on Thursday, accusing the US of seeking to "impose its hegemony on the whole world."The incident has raised some questions, such as what a spy aircraft was doing over an area thousands of kilometers away from the U.S. territories, the newspaper said in a commentary. "Of course, it was seeking to collect information and spying a sovereign state," it added. "It is not the first time for Washington to make such (spying) attempts against China," the paper said, adding that "although the U.S. and China were said to have started a new era of relations, Washington, which always seeks to impose its hegemony on the whole world, views China as a formidable rival in the economic, military and political areas." "Washington is locked in China's efforts to reinforce its economic and military power, and believes that Beijing is a future formidable rival," it said. "China has the right to demand an immediate official apology from the U.S. for the incident which took place over the South China Sea," it said. Chinese President Jiang Zemin held the U.S. fully responsible for the incident, urging Washington to stop its surveillance missions near Chinese coastal areas, it said, adding that the Chinese people are extremely infuriated by the U.S. act, which blatantly encroached upon China's sovereignty. "What is going on now reminds of the atmosphere of the Cold War, which is still in the minds of the Americans, who have a desire to control the entire world," it said. |
