China Trails Thailand 2-0 in Davis Cup Quarter-final

Chinese tennis was dealt a heavy blow on Friday as they lost the first two singles matches in the opening day of the Davis Cup Zone Asia-Oceania Group I playoff on Friday at the Muang Thong Thani Sports Complex.

Thailand's top player Paradorn Srichaphan took just over two hours to beat Chinese No. 2 Wang Yu 7-5, 6-4, 6-2 before Thai No. 2 Danai Udomchoke rebounded to defeat Chinese No. 1 Zhang Yu 6-1, 4-6, 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 in the second singles match.

In the doubles match on Saturday, Thai duo Wittaya Samrej and Narathorn will take on Xu Ran and Yang Jingzhu. The reversed singles matches will be played on Sunday with Paradorn taking on Zhang and Danai on Wang.

The winning nation will remain in Group I while the loser will be relegated to Group II next year.
