Russia Expects US-China Row to Be Solved on Equal Basis

Russia expects the row between the US and China over a mid-air collision of their military planes to be resolved "on the basis of equity and common sense," the Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday.

"We hope that this regrettable incident will be resolved on the basis of equity and common sense," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov, who supervises, in particular, relations with China, told reporters in Moscow.

China-U.S. relations have regional and global significance, but such incidents do not promote regional security, he said.

He said Russia will not mediate in the dispute because "nobody has invited us and we have no intention of offering mediation because we do not think it is needed."

Moscow is confident that the two sides will find a way to resolve the situation, he said.

The collision occurred on Sunday morning near China's southeast coast. The US surveillance plane rammed and caused the crash of the Chinese fighter jet. The pilot of the Chinese fighter is still missing.

After the incident, the US plane intruded into Chinese airspace and landed at a Chinese airport without permission from the Chinese side.
