State Drug Administration: No More Authorization for Drug Ads Application

Persons in charge of China State Drug Administration Thursday denoted that starting from May 1, China State Drug Administration will stop authorizing the advertisement made for new drugs in protection period or drugs produced in foreign countries and the ads published in major media as well.

The termination of authorization by State Drug Administration for the ads mainly aims to make a shift of government functions, reduce direct approvals by the authority and focus its limited manpower on the work of supervision and administration.

Sources say, from May 1, the application for publishing advertisement for drugs made in foreign countries will be handled and approved by the drug administrations of the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in which the drug examination institutions for port control are located. Besides, the 16 major media for drug ads publishing, which used to be authorized by the State Drug Administration, remain as usual not allowed to publish drug ads which used to be accepted according to the criteria for local drug advertisements.

Local authorities for drug ads authorization should check carefully on the documents for quality control. As regards those collected in line with the local drug ads criteria, they should give a clear indication of "not permitted to publish in major media" in the column of "planned for publishing media". From this May 1, the drug administrations of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities should submit the examination charts and the standard and directions of the drugs that they have authorized to the State Drug Administration in 15 workdays for records.
