US President Regrets Missing of Chinese Pilot

US President George W. Bush said in Washington on Thursday that he regretted the missing of a Chinese pilot in the air collision incident.

"I regret that a Chinese pilot is missing and I regret that one of their airplanes is lost. Our prayers go out to the pilot, his family," Bush said.

Speaking at a convention of newspaper editors, Bush said US relationship with China is very important and he hoped that the incident would not destabilize the relations.

On April 1, a US military plane caused the crash of a Chinese jet fighter off the coast off Hainan Island in South China Sea. Up till now, the Chinese pilot is still missing.

Powell Expresses Regret for Loss of Life Chinese Pilot

The United States Secretary of State Colin Powell has expressed regret over the death of the Chinese pilot killed when his fighter was in a collision with a US spy plane on Sunday.

Secretary of State Colin Powell said efforts at dialogue continued amid the four-day standoff over the spy plane and its crew. The plane collided with a Chinese jet fighter Sunday, whose pilot is missing and presumed dead in the South China Sea.

"We regret the Chinese pilot did not get down safely, and we regret the loss of life of that Chinese pilot," Powell said.
