DPRK's Budgetary Revenue, Expenditure Up in 2001
The budgetary revenue and expenditure of the Democratic People' Republic of Korea (DPRK) for 2001 are 21.57 billion won (about 9.9 billion U.S. dollars) respectively, up 3.2 percent in revenue and 2.9 percent in expenditure over last year, said a report issued Thursday by the Finance Ministry.
The DPRK will spend 2.7 percent more than last year in the country's key sectors such as power, coal, metal industries and railway transportation, and production of primary consumer goods and basic foodstuffs, which are essential to the people's lives, Finance Minister Mun Il Bong said in a report at the fourth session of the 10th Supreme People's Assembly, or parliament.
The minister's report said, 14.5 percent of the budgetary expenditure will be for defense spending, while most of the budget will be spent to develop science and technology.
According to the report, about 3.487 billion won (about 1.57 billion dollars) will be allocated to fund some large scale projects, including hydropower stations and waterway transportation schemes.
