Major Chinese Grain Producer to Open Wider to Outside WorldEast China's Shandong Province, one of the country's biggest grain producers, has decided to draw US$700 million from abroad into its agricultural sector this year.An official with the local government referred to the decision as part of the province's efforts to open up the sector to the outside world. According to the official, overseas funds will mainly be used for growing high quality strains, processing agricultural products, and developing new pesticides and fertilizers. The province also has had plans to export various commodities worth US$4.5 billion this year, US$970 million more than last year. Priority will be given to creating well-known brand names in vegetables, fruit, livestock, and aquatic products, in accordance with international quality standards. A number of export-oriented processing centers, including a livestock production center, are to be established, the official said. |
