Spanish Paper Comments on China-US Spy Plane Row

A Spanish newspaper on Wednesday scorned US arrogance over the collision of a US spy plane and a Chinese jet fighter near China's coast line.

The El Mundo newspaper asked in an editorial: Will Washington tolerate a Chinese spy plane to fly over the seas 80 kilometers off New York or Los Angeles?

It said that while US leaders actually admitted US spying on China, US President George W. Bush demanded the return of the plane which landed in a Chinese airport after the collision. While Bush, citing international law, demanded the return of the plane " without further damaging or tampering," he failed to admit one basic fact: the US spied on Chinese military and civilian facilities.

"Will the US allow a Chinese surveillance plane to fly over the seas 80 kilometers off New York or Los Angeles?" it asked.
