Mayor Welcomes More People to See New Beijing

The government wants more and more people from all over the world to see a new Beijing, said Liu Qi, Mayor of this capital of China, when meeting with Hong Kong tycoon Richard Li Tzar-kai Tuesday.

Liu also expressed gratitude for the support from Hong Kong entrepreneurs for Beijing's bidding to host the Olympic Games in summer 2008.

Although great changes have taken place in the city, many foreigners, including some members of the International Olympic Committee, are still not familiar with the latest developments here, said the mayor.

Richard Li Tzar-kai said that he has required his Pacific Century CyberWorks (PCCW) to add information concerning supporting Beijing's Olympic bid.

Li's fledgling Internet company last year bought Hong Kong's oldest and largest telecommunications company, Cable & Wireless HKT, from its British corporate parent.

Li's father is the billionaire Li Ka-shing, who runs numerous businesses in Hong Kong and elsewhere.
