Ericsson Establishes New Joint Venture in China

A new joint venture set up by the Ericsson Corporation of Sweden went into operation in this largest municipality in China Tuesday.

Ericsson Mobile Communications Co. Ltd. (China) and Chongqing Mobile Communications Company set up the new enterprise, namely the Chongqing Ericsson Communications Co. Ltd, with a total investment of 12 million US dollars.

The new company will deal mainly with microwave transmission systems, data switching devices and other telecommunications facilities.

The company plans to put out about 1,500 such transmission systems by the end of this year.

Jan Malm, president of Ericsson Mobile Communications Co. Ltd (China), said that the new company is likely to become Ericsson's global provider of microwave transmission systems and other telecom products.

The new company will continue to enhance Ericsson's cooperation with China Telecom, the largest telecommunications service provider in the country, to meet the increasing demand of the local market, according to Malm.

Ericsson so far has about 4,000 employees in China, working for its ten joint-ventures, three solely-funded enterprises, and 24 offices here.
