Taiwan's Manufacturing Production Down in March

Amid a continuously sluggish economy, Taiwan's manufacturing production in March was down 7.38 percent from the same time last year, according to reports reaching here from Taipei Tuesday.

A local official was cited as saying that the drop in manufacturing was attributed to this year's sluggish economy. The annual increase in manufacturing production last year was in the double digits, presenting a higher basis for comparison, he said.

Looking ahead, the official said there is no reason for optimism for that market. But he said the prospect of an economic rebound on the island is likely in the third and fourth quarter.
