NPC Chairman Meets Cambodian King

NPC Chairman Meets Cambodian King
Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said that China is willing to work with Cambodia to further bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various areas.

Li made the remark Wednesday, in a meeting with Cambodian King Norodom Sihanouk and Queen Monineath Sihanouk.

He extended cordial greetings from Chinese President Jiang Zemin to Sihanouk and his wife. He said that Sino-Cambodian friendship, which has been cultivated by Sihanouk and Chinese leaders of three generations, has been growing continuously.

Li mentioned that Jiang's state visit to Cambodia last year further strengthened the bilateral traditional friendship.

China attaches importance to its traditional good-neighborly friendship with Cambodia, and is willing to join hands with Cambodia to fulfill the goals set forth in the joint declaration on bilateral cooperation the two countries signed last year, Li said.

He said that he appreciates the achievements Cambodia has made in various areas under the leadership of Sihanouk.

Sihanouk said that the Cambodian people will never forget China's support during its struggle for national independence and economic development, adding that China's support has been a great encouragement to the Cambodian people.

Sihanouk, who is here for a regular medical check-up, also congratulated China on its achievements in economic and social development.

The king said that he believes China will score more achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of China in building socialism with Chinese characteristics.
