Returned Overseas Chinese, Relatives Encouraged to Develop High-Tech Industries

Returned overseas Chinese and relatives of Chinese nationals residing abroad are encouraged by the State to develop high-tech industries in China, said a leading Chinese lawmaker Wednesday.

While addressing a training course on a law for protecting the rights and interests of returned overseas Chinese and relatives of Chinese nationals residing abroad, Gan Ziyu, chairman of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress, said the revised Law on Protection of Legitimate Rights of Returned Overseas Chinese and Relatives of Chinese Nationals Residing Abroad stipulate that such people are allowed to develop various businesses in China, especially high-tech industries, and governments at all levels should extend full support to such businesses.

In the past, China has also introduced a range of measures to encourage overseas high-tech talents of Chinese origin to start businesses in the motherland.

In addition to the Opinions on Encouraging High-Level Chinese Students Studying Abroad to Return and Work Back in China, which was drafted by the Chinese Ministry of Personnel last year, the Ministry of Public Security also issued a circular regarding providing overseas high-tech talents and investors with conveniences in entry, exit and residence.

When starting up new businesses, especially high-tech industries, Gan suggested that returned overseas Chinese and relatives of Chinese nationals residing abroad make good use of their overseas connections and attract more high-tech talents from overseas in accordance with existing preferential policies of the state.
