Xinjiang to Expand Trade with Neighbor Countries

Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northwest China, plans to further expand its trade and economic relations with foreign countries, especially surrounding nations in the middle and western parts of Asia.

Abudureyimu Ajiyiming, a vice chairman with the regional government, said this at a news briefing of the forthcoming Talks on Cooperation and Investment between China's Eastern and Western Regions Wednesday.

He announced that the 10th Urumqi Trade Fair will be held in the regional capital, Urumqi, in September, and in addition, the autonomous region plans to hold some other fairs including the China Food Exposition and the Second Xinjiang Textile Exposition.

Xinjiang, which covers 1.6 million square kilometers, makes up one-sixth of China's territory and shares 5,600 kilometer borders with some neighbor countries.

So far, the Uygur autonomous region has opened up 16 land ports to foreign visitors and businesses.

Xinjiang, which boasts convenient civil aviation services, has established 55 domestic air routes and six international ones.
