European Delegation Meets US Officials Over Global Warming Treaty

A high-level delegation from Europe has met members of the Bush administration in Washington to discuss the United States abandoning the Kyoto treaty on global warming, BBC reports Wednesday.

This is the first time that senior environment officials from Europe and America have met face-to-face since the White House announced last week that it was pulling out of the Kyoto process.

After the meeting, the delegation said that the administration had restated its opposition to the treaty without offering any alternatives to lower greenhouse gas emissions.

America says it is now conducting a full review of its policy on the environment before it reenters any kind of international talks on limiting emissions.

President Bush has made it clear that he is not prepared to support any kind of controls, which in his view could hurt the US economy.
