Beijing to Give Air Quality Forecast from This May

According to sources from Beijing Environment Protection Bureau, Beijing is ready to give air quality forecast as from May 1.

Beijing's media will then broadcast the air-quality information jointly provided by the Environment Monitor Center and the Meteorological Observatory of the Meteorological Bureau.

As reported, Beijing has stepped into the sixth stage of air pollution control (April 1-October 31). Continuous efforts will be used to reduce suspended particles and improve the energy mixture by reducing coal as fuel so that the air quality in the capital can reach Grade 2 and more than 50 percent of the days better than Grade 2 or fairly good.

Monitoring data of last year shows that sulfur dioxide and particles constitute the main elements for air pollution. Therefore, the municipal government has to take new measures to control industrial pollution, strive to reduce over 90 percent of the automobile's tail-gas emission to the qualified standard, popularize the use of natural gas, reconstruct coal fueled boilers so as to strengthen the eco-environmental protection and control dirt pollution.
