Cambodian Premier Highly Praises Project of Kirirom Hydropower Station

Prime Minister Hun Sen said Tuesday that the renovation of the Kirirom Hydropower Station invested by the Chinese company has set a precedent for utilization of foreign investment in Cambodia.

He made the remark when meeting with Gao Yan, president of the State Power Corporation of China (SPCC), in his residence in central Phnom Penh.

The renovation project and construction of an electric transmission line between Kirirom and Phnom Penh, which started Monday, was in the model of BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) by the China Electric Power Technology Import and Export Corporation, attached to the SPCC.

Hun Sen expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for its support to the construction of Kirirom hydropower station I, saying that the development of Kirirom hydropower station would promote the industry development along the National Road 4 which links Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville city.

The premier pointed out that the development of electric power is of great importance in the bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries, indicating that he welcomes the SPCC to do survey and assessment of the hydropower resources in Kirirom area, and if the Kirirom area has possibility to develop Kirirom hydropower station II and III, he would let the Chinese corporation to enjoy priority in the development.

Gao Yan said that the Chinese firm has interest in the development of Kirirom hydropower on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
