Macedonian President Submits Document on National Security to ParliamentMacedonian President Boris Trajkovski submitted Monday a document on the situation of national security and related future measures to party leaders in parliament, Macedonia's MIA news agency reported. It was the first time for the Macedonian president to submit such a document to party leaders after Macedonia's security crisis triggered by the ethnic Albanian extremists' attacks on the Macedonia- Kosovo border more than a month ago was near its end. According to MIA, the document said Macedonia had repulsed the ethnic Albanian extremists' military and political insurgency, including their violent attacks, with the joint efforts of the entire Macedonian people and support from the international community. The document said that as the European Union was to sign a stability and communication agreement with Macedonia on April 9, the political parties should work harder to maintain the political and economic stability of the society to meet with the EU's criterion. Most important to Macedonia are national security, stability, territorial integrity and ethnic harmony, the document said. Trajkovski asked the party leaders to discuss the document in a week's time. Leaders of the Party for Democratic Prosperity of Macedonia, an Albanian party, refused to attend the meeting, saying that the meeting "was not fully prepared." Meanwhile, the latest bulletin from the Macedonian Interior Ministry Monday said that the customs houses of Bllace and Yajince along the Macedonia-Kosovo border would be reopened to all vehicles and passengers Tuesday. The border was closed on May 9 after the ethnic Albanian extremists launched their military attacks there. |
