Overseas-Financed Enterprises Invest Heavily in Chongqing

More than 1,600 enterprises have been set up in Chongqing by overseas Chinese and companies from Hong Kong and Macao, according to the Chongqing Municipal Office for Overseas Chinese Affairs.

These enterprises have a total investment of over 1.3 billion US dollars, an official of the office said.

Thirty of the top 500 companies in the world have invested in Chongqing, the largest manufacturing and commercial center in southwest China.

At present, 70 percent of foreign-funded enterprises in Chongqing are those financed by overseas Chinese, and companies from H.K. and Macao, accounting for 60 percent of the city's total investments.

China Chongqing Investment and Trade Fair and Three Gorges International Tourism Festival are due to open in the city on April 25. To date, 150 overseas Chinese business people have signed up to take part.

The Chongqing Municipal Office for Overseas Chinese Affairs has chosen 55 projects to release on the Internet. These will mainly involve a whole range of areas such as infrastructure, science, industry, agriculture, tourism and real estate. The total investment is estimated at six billion yuan.
