French, Chinese Vow to Promote Bilateral Ties

French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine and his Chinese counterpart, Tang Jiaxuan, vowed Monday to further improve relations between the two countries.

During a meeting, Tang said the two countries should expand economic and trade cooperation while increasing political consultations and exchanges at high levels.

He said China and France, which share many common interests, should further strengthen their cooperation in various fields.

As permanent members of the UN Security Council, both China and France bear important responsibilities in international affairs, said Tang, who arrived here on Sunday for an official visit.

Meanwhile, Vedrine said that it is important to promote friendship and cooperation in the fields of politics, economy and culture.

The two foreign ministers agreed that bilateral ties have developed smoothly in the past years.
