Overseas Investors Hold 16.45 Percent of Taiwan Stocks

Overseas buyers owned more than 1.6 trillion new Taiwan dollars (US$50 billion) worth of Taiwan shares as of the end of March, according to reports reaching here Monday from Taipei.

This accounted for 16.45 percent of the local listed and over- the-counter markets' total value, the reports quoted the statistics released Monday by the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

According to the statistics, overseas investors owned 1.01 trillion new Taiwan dollars (US$32 billion) worth of shares listed on the local listed market alone, accounting for 9. 79 percent of the market's total value.

Stocks of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, United Micro Electronics Corp. and Hou Hai Precision Industry Corp. were the top three most possessed by overseas buyers, said the reports.
