Chinese Skaters Sweep 500-meter Golds at World Speed Skating Championships

Chinese skaters showed their dominance in speed skating as Li Jiajun and Wang Chunlu won the men's and women's 500-meter finals respectively Saturday in Seoul at the 2001 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships.

Li clocked 43.433 seconds to win the men's gold, followed by Canadian Jonathan Guilmette in 43.465.

Italian Maurizio Carnino came in third in 44.691, trailed by Canadian Marc Gagnon, who clocked 1 minute, 12.630 seconds.

In the women's competition, China's Wang won in 45.779, followed by fellow Chinese Yang Yang (big) in 45.872. Another Chinese, Yang Yang (small), came in third in 45.949. Bulgaria's Evgenia Radanova was fourth in 46.003.
