Macao Has 437,900 People

The estimated population stood at 437,903 in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on December 31, 2000, 448 more than that of the same day in the previous year.

The population growth in the year 2000 was 1.5 percentage points lower than that of 1999, according to the latest official figures from the Statistics and Census Services of the SAR government.

The male and female account for 47.3 percent and 52.7 percent, respectively.

Statistics show that the population of 14 years old or younger reached 22.4 percent; those aged between 15 and 64 reached 69.6 percent, and the aged population of 65 or above, 8 percent.

A total of 3,849 babies were born and 1,338 people died last year in Macao, the source said.

The number of immigrants to Macao reached 4,430, while an estimated 6,493 people moved out of Macao in the year 2000.
