Germany Wants Kyoto Agreement Implementation Despite US Rejection

German Environment Minister Juergen Trittin on March 30 expressed his hope for implementation of the Kyoto agreement despite US rejection.

The Kyoto agreement, a frame worked out together by all countries, must be implemented with concrete measures, Trittin said, adding that "there is no alternatives."

The target continued to be that the agreement, aimed at reduction of greenhouse gases, could come into force in 2002, he noted.

He said that a number of industrialized countries such as Australia and New Zealand, which once maintained the same stance like the US, later agreed with the Kyoto agreement.

The U.S announcement of pulling out of the Kyoto Agreement elicited strong criticisms worldwide Friday.
