More Stormy Surges to Hit South China Coast

Three to four disastrous surges from the sea will hit China this year, most possibly on the Southeastern coast including Fujian, Guangdong, and provinces in Hainan, according to released by the State Oceanic Administration (SOA).

Song Xuejia, an SOA official, said at a press conference Friday that at least one such surge might hit the Bohai Bay in the north.

Disastrous tidal waves are expected to hit China more frequently than in the past several years, reaching about 34 times, and most of them will happen in the South China Sea, the East China Sea and the Taiwan Straits.
