Indonesian Navy to Intensify Cooperation With Singapore
The Indonesian Navy force would intensify its cooperation with Singapore in a bid to uphold the law in the waters of Batam island, Riau province which is prone to smuggling, illegal fish catching and piracy.
"The navy will give serious attention to the law enforcement in Indonesia's waters," Commander of the Indonesia Western Fleet Navy Rear Adm. Putu Ardana told reporters in Medan, capital of North Sumatra province, on Friday.
Ardana said law enforcement in Indonesia's waters has been hampered by certain limitations. But he gave no details on what limitations he meant.
The Navy has set up communications equipment in Batam to anticipate all kinds of law violations in its waters, he was quoted by the Antara News Agency as saying.
