China Postal Air Express Network Operational

An airplane with a feather (a sign of urgency) and China Postal Airlines logo on it took off at the Shanghai Hongqiao Airport Wednesday morning, marking the formal inauguration of the China Postal Air Express Network.

Director of the State Post Bureau Liu Liqing, Shanghai vice- mayor Han Zheng and other officials witnessed the inaugural ceremony.

The China Postal Air Express Network now has Shanghai as its center and operates flights to 14 major cities, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Qingdao and Xiamen.

The establishment of the network marks a major effort by the postal authority to improve its services amid mounting market pressure.

All the postal airplanes took off before 5 a.m. so that all the letters and parcels collected the day before reached customers before noon.

Liu Liqing said the network will be expanded in the future, with the opening of new air routes from Shanghai to Xi'an, Shenyang, Wuhan and Shenzhen.
