Beijing to Hold CBD Forum During High-tech Week

A forum on the development of the Central Business District (CBD) in the core area of Beijing is scheduled to be held May 11 and 12 in Beijing, as part of the Fourth Beijing International High-tech Week agenda.

At about two kilometers east of Tian'anmen Square, the CBD covers some 4 sq. km in Beijing's Dongcheng District, where over 60 percent of the city's foreign-funded companies and more than 50 percent of star hotels are located.

Major topics at the forum will include design, construction, management and industrial restructuring of the CBD, digital technology with CBD development, and the influence generated from China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Attending the forum will be some senior officials with the State Council and Beijing municipal government, foreign commercial counselors to China, representatives from renowned overseas companies, and domestic entrepreneurs.

The CBD plan was initiated in the early 1990s and it has been included in Beijing's 10th Five-Year Plan period (2001-2005).

Shanghai, Chongqing, Shenzhen and Qingdao are also planning to set up their own CBDs.
