China Enhances Efforts to Prevent Juvenile Delinquency
The Chinese Central Government has set up a work commission to handle the increasing number of juvenile crimes in this country, according to the commission's first session Wednesday.

"The founding of the commission has proven the government's determination to prevent and reduce crimes by young people," said Cao Zhi, director of the commission and also vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

The session stressed the importance of crime education for youngsters and called for reinforcing the effectiveness of protecting young people's rights across the country.

The commission decided to establish security systems on and around campuses to maintain normal order necessary for elementary and middle school students. The commission also discussed how to increase youngster's awareness and ability of protecting themselves.

Governmental departments attending the meeting included the Ministry of Education, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the Ministry of Public Securities, and the Ministry of Justice.
