Jingzhou to Host International Dragon Boat Festival

Central China's Jingzhou city is scheduled to host an international dragon boat festival from May 1 to May 3.

Li Chunming, mayor of Jingzhou in Hubei province, announced Wednesday that the festival will feature a dragon boat contest, a temple fair, a singing contest, and a seminar on dragon boat culture, and a pilgrimage to the revered Guan Yu, a historical figure noted for his bravery and loyalty as a general.

On the sideline of the festival, activities will be held to promote tourism products, trade and investment.

Thirty-one dragon boat teams from the United States, Australia, Malaysia, Europe and other countries are expected to participate in the festival.

A world-class dragon boat and palace lantern will be shown for the first time during the festival. The 69 meter-long dragon boat, is the largest in China, and the palace lantern is 12.68 meters high and 11.1 meters in width.

Jingzhou hosted its first dragon boat festival last year and plans to make it an annual event.
