Shanxi Sets up Fetus Monitoring Network

A remote network for monitoring fetal activities recently started operation in north China's Shanxi Province.

The network, centered in the Shanxi Provincial Women and Children's Hospital, is able to monitor fetal movements through terminals linked with the mainframe.

Sources said that the network has computerized the inspection of all hospitalized pregnancies. The mainframe can trace 32 pregnant women at one time.

In addition, the system may also monitor home-based pregnancies in terms of embryocardia, embryo position, and physiological factors such as blood pressure, and breathing and pulse rates of the pregnant women, through special cables connected with the monitor center.

The establishment of the system is an important move in extending medical services to the communities in Shanxi.
