Three Gorges Project Opens Sealed Bids for Power Generation Monitoring Network
Sources from the China Yangtze River Three Gorges Project Development Corporation said that sealed bids for the rights to build a control center and a computerized power generation monitoring system were opened Tuesday.
Construction of the Three Gorges Project control center at the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the computerized network to monitor power generation at the left bank of the river will start soon.
Experts are now studying and evaluating the bids, which came from an international bidding last December.
The list of builders for the above-mentioned two works are scheduled to be announced early May, said the sources.
The Three Gorges Project will consist of a 1,983-meter-long by 185-meter-tall dam and 26 generating units with a combined capacity of 18.2 million kilowatts.
Upon completion in 2009, the project will be able to generate 84.7 billion kilowatts-hour of electricity annually. Its permanent locks will allow a fleet of more than 10,000 DWT (dead weight tonnage) to pass.
In accordance with a construction plan, the Three Gorges Project will realize the targets of water storage, power generation by the first group of generators, and a navigation service for the permanent ship lock in 2003.
The control center and the computerized power generation monitoring network are important factors to ensure that the Three Gorges Project plays the role of flood control and power generation, in addition to the safe operation of the project by that time, said the sources.
