Guangzhou Police Open New Telephone Service

Residents in South China's Guangzhou who lodge inquiries to the police can dial the special telephone number 96110 and get answers by phone message or fax straight away.

Local residents may inquire about matters concerning household registration, ID cards, exit and entry and vehicle management, the results of applications for permanent residence, exit on private business, and traffic offenses and cases, a spokesman for Guangzhou police said.

The recently launched service is the first of its kind available in China.

The move was designed by the local police to provide better service for the general public while improving the transparency and efficiency of their work, said the spokesman.

He said Guangzhou police plan to expand the service in the near future.
