Glory of "Crouching Tiger" Belongs to All Chinese: Ang Lee
Ang Lee, director of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", the winner of four Oscar awards, was accorded a huge ovation at the victory meeting held in his honor in Los Angeles on Monday.
Lee said that "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is attributed to the Chinese people for its success and should be shared by all ethnic Chinese throughout the world.
Lee analyzed that "Crouching Tiger" has set a new box-office record for foreign films in the United States. Its script has been selected as teaching materials to be taught in American senior high schools. "Crouching Tiger" has been on the lip of a multitude of people throughout the world, arousing the interest of Western audiences in understanding Chinese culture and sharing a common language in the film. Such a cultural phenomenon and impact show far greater significance than "Crouching Tiger" by itself, Lee said.
Lee took pride in the performance and achievements of the film. He said that the winners of the four Oscars include Chinese from all sides who have succeeded in showing Chinese culture and glories to people all over the world.
He also emphasized that as a Chinese bred in Taiwan, he has a deep-rooted Chinese cultural background. He cannot shake off his Chinese characters even in directing Hollywood film. But what he is trying to do is to combine Oriental merits with Western creme so as to create perfect a film.
Lee plans to visit China's mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan in April.
New Oscar Winner Hailed in China
People from China's film circles are excited about the four Oscar award winning movie, "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon," though they also feel sorry that the movie did not win the Best Film and Best Director awards.
"I am cheerful about the awards which provide Chinese movies a better opportunity to enter the American market," said Zheng Xiaolong, a director who is known in China for a number of popular TV series.
'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' Wins Best Foreign Film Oscar
The Chinese-language film "Grouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" was awarded the Oscar for Best Foreign Film at the star-studded 73rd annual Academy Awards held in Los Angeles Sunday night.
Directed by Taiwan-born Ang Lee, the martial arts fantasy has won high acclaim at Hollywood by getting 10 Oscar nominations. It has already won the Oscars for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Original Score at the grand awarding ceremony held at the Shrine Auditorium.
