Jiangxi to Build More Roads in 2001-2005

Jiangxi Province in east China has mapped out a blueprint to build more roads in the coming five years.

With the completion of the provincial network of 1,422 kilometers of expressways by the end of 2005, it will only take five hours to travel across the province from east to west and six hours from south to north.

At present, construction of 245 kilometers of expressways is under way and that of another 757 kilometers will be built in five years, according to local officials.

A total of 18.1 billion yuan will be used for road construction, including 12.28 billion yuan for expressway construction, in the coming three years.

By the end of last year, the province had a total of 37,000 kilometers of highways, including 420 kilometers of expressways.
