SW Sea-bound Waterway Network Construction Accelerated

Stepped up construction of SW sea-bound waterway network has been under way as is lately reported by news media, a state key project launched in Southwest China. A two billion yuan of investment has already been made in over ten years of realignment and dredging of the Xijiang River, a major watercourse in the area that will soon be open to sea-bound shipping from Nanning, Guangxi, to Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao.

So far several dangerous shoals including Modong, Dashida, Chenggou and Xiasanmen have been removed from the watercourse of Hongshui, Guangxi. Inter-city sea-bound portage will be realized between Guizhou, Yunnan and Guangxi and port cities by the end of 2002. Meanwhile, various subsidiary undertakings are being built to make the whole project of SW sea-bound waterway network available at an early date in Southwest China.
