Nanjing 2nd Yangtze Bridge Opened to Traffic

The first motorcade runs on the 21-kilometer-long Nanjing 2nd Yangtze Bridge which is opened to traffic on March 26, 2001. The bridge consists of several parts such as Nancha Bridge, Beicha Bridge and Baguazhou connecting line etc.. The 628-meter-long span of the main part of Nancha Bridge is the largest one in China and the third largest span in the world.

The First White Lion Cub ever Born in China

A zoo keeper of the Bifengxia Ecological Zoo in the city of Yaan, southwest China's Sichuan province, holds the first white lion cub ever born in China March 25, 2001. The one-month-old lion cub is the first baby of its mother "Yamei" who does not know how to take care of her baby. So the zoo keeper had to separate the cub from its mother. White lions, originally African, are extremely rare in the world and there are no more than 10 in China.

Border Expressway Under Construction in Yunnan

The Dabao Expressway linking the well-known historical and cultural City Dali and border City Baoshan is under construction in southwest China's Yunnan Province. The 166-kilometer line at a cost of more than 7 billion yuan is a key section of Kunming-border expressway. Parts of the expressway is expected to be opened to traffic this year.

Build Nests for Birds

A student from the No. 6 Vocational School in Nanning, seat of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, fixes a nest for a bird to be set free back to nature March 25, 2001. The city held an event to build nests for free birds to commemorate the 20th anniversary of China's "Birds' Protection Week".
