International Symposium on Health Foods Held in Shanghai

An international symposium on health food science and technology is being held in east China's Shanghai, March 26-28, drawing over 200 experts from a dozen countries and regions.

Statistics show that about 3,000 varieties of health food have been ratified by Chinese related departments, with 600 varieties entering the market.

The sales volume of China's health food market reached 50 billion yuan (about US$6 billion) last year.

Experts predict the total sales volume of health food in the world will increase to US$51.3 billion in 2004.

Experts say natural, safe and effective products will be the new development trend of health food in the 21st century.
