Real Estate Handed Over to PLA Troops in Macao
The garrison troops of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) stationed in Macao will officially take over the real estate provided by local government, and can use it for military purpose free of charge as of Tuesday.
Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao special administrative region (SAR), has made the announcement, signaling the end of law procedures on the garrison troops' ownership of their real estate.
The SAR government has given the garrison troops two patches of land with no charges. One, covering an area of 5,596 square meters, is in Macao Peninsular, i.e. the parking area in front of the temporary camp of the troops, while the other is in Taipa, a 42,018-square-meter area not in use yet.
China's central government will cover the cost of building the new camping area in Taipa. The garrison troops will adhere to the Basic Law and concerned rules and regulations of the SAR, respect the life style of Macao residents and avoid or reduce to the utmost the effects of on the daily life of nearby residents in constructing and operating the new camp, a spokesman said.
