The made the appeal in their separate messages on the advent of Muharram-ul-Haram, beginning of the first month of the Islamic calendar that falls on March 27.

President Tarar said in his message, "The solemnity of the holy month of Muharram requires all the Muslims to forge unity among their ranks and files."

He said, "we should promote Islamic brotherhood in line with the teachings of the Holy Quran and must commit ourselves to fully respecting the rights and duties according to the tenets of Islam. "

Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf in his message appealed to the nation to reaffirm its commitment to ensuring peace both collectively and individually.

This was necessary, he said, "to enable Pakistan to achieve the goals of progress, solidarity, stability and prosperity."

He urged the nation to foil all the machinations against the country.
