Central China Province Reports Major Export Rise

The central Chinese province of Hunan exported 216 million US dollars worth of commodities in the first two months of this year, up 7.2 percent from the same period last year, according to latest customs statistics.

Exports through general trade have had the fastest increase, but exports via the processing trade have not been doing so well, said the customs sources.

In February, for instance, exports via general trade totaled 116 million U.S. dollars, up 18.1 percent, while exports through the processing trade totaled 14.77 million U.S. dollars, down by 13.3 percent.

Electro-mechanical commodities and textiles make up most of Hunan's exports. The province's exports to Japan, Germany, Britain, France and Nigeria increased, while exports to the Republic of Korea plunged by 32.6 percent, said the customs sources.
