S.Korea Reshuffles Cabinet, Changing 12 Ministers
South Korean President Kim Dae-jung Monday conducted a large-scale cabinet reshuffle, involving a total of 12 ministers or minister-level presidential secretaries.
All ministers in the field of foreign affairs, national defense and intelligence have been changed.
Han Seung-soo was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, replacing Lee Jong-binn while Shin Kuhn, the second vice director of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) was promoted to NIS director, taking the place of Lim Dong-won.
Kim Dong-shin, a former Army chief of staff of South Korea, was tapped as Defense Minister, replacing Cho Sung-tae
Former Culture and Tourism Minister Park Jie-won was named as senior presidential secretary for policy and planning and Lee Tae- bok, chief editor of a labor newspaper, as senior presidential secretary for social development.
Oh Jang-seop, a third-term lawmaker of the United Liberal Democrats, a ruling coalition partner of the incumbent administration, was named as Construction and Transportation Minister
Lim Dong-won was once again appointed as Unification Minister.
Meanwhile, Lee Keun-sik was named Government Administration and Home Affairs Minister, Chang Che-shilk Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy, Yang Seung-taik Minister of Information and Communication, Chung Woo-taik Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Kim Young-hwan Minister of Science and Technology, Na Seung-po head of Office for Government Policy Coordination, and Kim Deok-bae Presidential Commissioner on Small and Medium Enterprises.
