Pak Defense Budget Not to Be Reduced: Musharraf

Pakistan's Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf on Sunday said in view of the threat Pakistan faces, the country's defense budget cannot be reduced.

He told a press conference in Karachi that India had raised its defense expenditure by 28 percent last year and this year it again raised its defense budget by 14 percent, according to a report of the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

He said that Pakistan does not want to be involved in any arms race. "However, Pakistan will not lower the minimum deterrence level required for our security," he added.

He said despite increase in India's defense budget, Pakistan had not enhanced its defense expenditure.
