Biographies on Rivers Appreciated by Academic Circle

The Chinese academic circle and environmental protection experts have highly valued the first series of biographies on China's major rivers.

At a symposium organized Saturday in Beijing, Liu Huajie, associate professor at Beijing University, said that the series combines knowledge of various fields such as history, geography, economics, ecology, culture and folk-custom.

He said the books are targeting significant issues on environmental and ecological protection.

Wu Guosheng, professor at Beijing University, said that deterioration of environment and ecology in the world would eventually destroy the normal life of people themselves.

The series, which were lately published by Hebei University Press, includes seven books separately on the Yellow River, Yangtze River, Zhujiang River, Grand Canal, Huaihe River, Tarim River and Yarlung Zangbo River.

Gong Jingcai, head of the press, said that the publication might help arouse consciousness of well protecting the environment among the people.
