CPVCC Takes Disciplinary Action Against Senior Party Officials

The 11th plenary meeting (second phase) of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) decided to give five senior party members disciplinary action within the party, a senior party official announced Saturday.

At a news briefing here today, director of the CPVCC's Commission for Ideology and Culture Huu Tho said that the 11th plenum party decided to give three members of CPVCC disciplinary warning, namely Doan Van Kien, General Director of Vietnam Coal Cooperation; Hoang Duc Nghi, Chairman of the Ethnic Minorities and Mountain Regions Commission; Ha Quang Du, the Sport Commission Director.

The plenum also decided to serve reprimands to two Vietnamese senior army officers, namely Senior Lieutenant General Pham Van Tra, Defence Minister; and Lieutenant General Le Van Dung, Chief of the General Staff of Vietnamese Army.

Tho explained that the above-said party officials were given disciplinary action within the party and gave no other details about their mistakes.

The 11th plenum (second phase), which took place here from March 13 to 24, 2001, has further perfected the drafts of the documents to be presented to the upcoming 9th National Party Congress and discuss the personnel issues of CPVCC.

The plenum also decided the 9th National Congress of CPV will be convened on April 19, 2001. And the 12th plenum of CPVCC will be held several days before the beginning of the 9th Party National

Congress.

The 11th plenary meeting (the first phase) of the CPVCC was held in Hanoi from January 6 to 16, 2001.
