Russian Violinist to Perform in ChinaOne of the world's leading violinists, Eduard Grach, arrived in Beijing Friday and planned a performance tour in China with his own orchestra.During their 15-day China tour, Grach and Moscoviya Chamber Orchestra are scheduled to visit Wenzhou, Ningbo and Hangzhou cities in Zhejiang Province; Suzhou, Changzhou and Nanjing cities in Jiangsu Province; Zhanjiang city in Guangdong Province; and Chengdu city in Sichuan Province. They will come back to Beijing for a proposed concert at Century Theater, according to representatives of the Century Performance Corporation. Grach, a leading proponent of the romantic style of violin playing that is sorely lacking in much of today's more technical and commercial style, belongs to a group of leading violinists from the second half of the 20th century. The international music circle has traditionally enlisted Grach as one of the five best violinists. The four others are David Oistrakh, Leonid Kogan, Isaak Stern and Yehudi Menuhin. When meeting with the Chinese press Friday afternoon, Grach said, "Many commemorable events during my music career happened in China." "The education of violin playing in China is now at a very high level," he said. Grach is also honorary professor at both Shanghai Music Conservatory and Sichuan Music Conservatory. "Chinese students are very gifted and promising," he said. Most members of the visiting chamber orchestra are disciples of Grach. The violinist hoped his orchestra would give Chinese audience the best musical enjoyment at their concerts. |
