IBM to Set up SAN Lab in Taiwan

The world's computer giant IBM will establish Taiwan's first storage area network lab, or SAN lab, which is expected to begin design, development, software examination and other services in May, reports reaching Hong Kong from Taipei said Friday.

Girding for the business opportunities springing from digital data storage software and also for the rapid pace of the new economic era, IBM worked with NetPro Information Service Ltd., an expert in data storage and backup software, to set up a SAN exhibition center last year.

IBM already began planning on the establishment of more SAN labs worldwide in March last year, according to company sources. Four large SAN labs have been established in the United States, France, Germany and Japan.

IBM added that the SAN lab will be located at the IBM Taiwan Corporation's headquarters. The company is mulling over the establishment of an additional one or two exhibition centers in Taiwan, the sources added.
