University Introduces MBA Course in Healthcare Education

China Capital University of Medicine recently introduced a MBA course for its master's candidates majoring in administration and management of hospitals and community medical services.

The integration of the MBA course in the training is compatible with the current reform of the medicaal system and will help cultivate a business sense for the administrative staff of hospitals, said Professor Liang Wannian, a university official.

Along with the deepening of the market-oriented reform of the medical system, China needs more and more high-level administrative experts to run hospitals and nothing but a market- led medical system can satisfy the demands of patients with sound health services, he noted.

Since last February, China has launched a nationwide reform of its medical system, including the setting-up of an urban medicare system, the price reform of health services, and the restructuring of pharmaceutical production and distribution. The authorities have vowed to establish a better and highly qualified medical system under a socialist market economy.

The restructured urban healthcare system will be composed of community-based clinic services, comprehensive hospitals and specialized ones.

According to the official, last December, the university set up a general medicine training center under the supervision of the Ministry of Health. The center, which combines preventivbe medicine with general medicine, is aimed to meet the increasing needs of community-based health services.
